Why Kakegawa tea is so popular
The mainstream of Kakegawa tea is "deep-steamed tea."
By steaming it for a longer time than regular sencha, it has a rich, sweet and deep flavor.
Additionally, because the tea leaves are fine and there is a lot of powder, you can enjoy more of the catechin, theanine, vitamin C, dietary fiber, minerals, and other ingredients.
Furthermore, the people of Kakegawa drink a lot of tea from morning to night.
Research has shown that Kakegawa City has the lowest cancer mortality rate in Japan, thanks to its lifestyle of drinking a lot of tea.

Among the producers from various regions, producers in Kakegawa City have won the most awards in the nation at the National Tea Competition (deep-steamed sencha category) a total of 25 times.
The traditional farming method of utilizing "chagusaba," a grassland where Japanese silver grass and bamboo grass are laid in the tea fields, is maintained, with a ratio of tea field to chagusaba of 10:7. As a semi-natural grassland, precious plants such as endangered bellflowers and dianthus are cultivated.
The Japanese pampas grass and bamboo grass grown in the Chagusaba fields are harvested and dried by farmers every year from autumn to winter and spread around the base of the tea plants and between the rows as organic fertilizer, which suppresses weeds, softens the soil and allows the roots to spread, thereby improving the quality of the tea leaves.
