About Ukyo Tea House

The owner personally visits the tea fields to carefully select the tea, ensuring that you can see the faces of the producers and that it is safe and secure. Even locally, the title of national winner at the National Tea Judging Skills Competition is useful in protecting the handful of high-quality teas that are available. This is because this tea will never be available on the market. When it comes to the tea that is finished at the tea factory and sent to our shop, the taste of the national winner is also put to good use in the sense that "we send you the finest from the factory."

No, but more than that, since the owner went independent, we have had many customers who have been drinking our tea for many years (some for over 60 years), and the people to whom they have given gifts... and the circle of customers that has naturally grown has expanded nationwide (and sometimes we even receive phone calls directly from New York). The satisfaction (ratings) every year from such customers who are serious tea connoisseurs keeps us on our toes at the factory. Please try comparing our teas at the same price. We are proud that our customers are getting a good deal, as they are enjoying tea of a grade that is second to none.

About the founder of "Chadokoro Ukyo"

Drink tea and live to be 100 years old!

As the second son of a farming family in Shinshu, he dropped out of high school at the age of 16 and moved to Tokyo.

He got a job at a seaweed wholesaler in Nakano.

At that time, he would travel by bicycle to Urayasu to purchase goods and deliver them throughout Tokyo, from Ginza (Matsuya) to Ikebukuro (Seibu).

Apparently, the Kudan slope was tough, and one of the friends was blown off the railing of Funabori Bridge by the wind, complete with his bicycle.

When he was 25 years old, one of his major clients, Nohara Tea Farm, asked him, "I'm getting old and I'm retiring, but would you like to take over?" He was chosen from among several other young people who had come to buy tea.

Having switched from selling seaweed to working at a tea shop, he decided to test the results of his desperate study of tea.

He participated in the National Tea Judging Skills Competition (Tea Battle). He placed last in the Tokyo preliminary round, where 10 out of 100 contestants were selected. However, in the final round, he brilliantly won the top spot among 60 elite contestants from six blocks across the country (10 contestants each).

National champion! Number one in Japan! I was 33 years old at the time.

The motto is "Drink tea and live a long and healthy life to 100 years old! 100 years old!!"

The name of the shop was changed to "Chadokoro Ukyo" in reference to Kyoto, where the tea ceremony took place.

This tournament was the catalyst for the creation of the teahouse Ukyo, which the owner has carefully crafted.
